A composition that takes up traditions such as the baroque Chaconne (but surprising in 7/8 time) or the heavyweight "Introduction" in Max Reger, but which is also modern in tone language. "AUS ABGRUNDTIEFER FINSTERNIS" is a setting of the gloomy Psalm 88 for vocal ensemble / choir, solo violin and orchestra is commissioned by the Jesuit Cathedral St. Michael in Munich on the occasion of the memorial concert "75 Years of Destruction by Bombing in November 1944". The work is played as a commentary and introduction to Mozart's Requiem in D minor in a seamless transition. The instrumentation is identical to that of Mozart. It can be performed in many ways with solos (S A T B) or with a four-part choir or in various solo choral variations.

YIN & YANG..... is about a philosophic concept of the Daoism that is more than 2000 years old: there is no real duality; the alleged antitheses are subject to constant change and the dark arises from the light, the positive arises from the negative. The principle of polarity contains the polar contrast, but the pairs are inseparably connected and are always related to one another. "I Ging" or "Yi Jin" ( the "book of changes") states that the negative cannot grow infinitely, but will turn into the positive. Conversely, the wise man also learned, that happiness is not permanent, but must turn back into the dark. The wise man can thus always foresee the change and take precautions.

The music on this CD seeks to build bridges: to the great composers Mozart and Beethoven of our own tradition as well as to the music of Asia. This recording is also a portrait of the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra, an outstanding ensemble with a youthful joy in experimentation... with its Principal Conductor Simon Gaudenz. And there are two internationally renowned soloists. Juliana Koch is an ARD prizewinner and solo oboist of the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle. Wu Wei is the world’s leading exponent of the Sheng, a traditional Chinese instrument. I am fascinated by his artistry and have composed five concertos for him.

The demanding Concerto thematises that path into the light which is reported with great consistency in all near-death experiences: the darkness gives way to a transition into a bright light and peace. What remains is the longing for the light. In the mythological figure of Icarus, this longing has become a symbol for us. The boundless light, however, is not granted to the mortal ego and must be paid for with real death: Icarus wanted to fly to the sun and freedom with the wings made by his father Daedalus, and paid for his longing with death. ORGAN SYMPHONY NO. 17: ‘THE SWAN’ - A mythical journey with Jean Sibelius was composed as a commission for the American organist James D. Hicks. As a tribute to the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957), his legendary ‘THE SWAN OF TUONELA’ forms the starting point for a mythological journey: The ‘swan’ is a myth that has been of central importance in all cultures since the world-creating earth goddess. A symbol of angelic purity, but also closely associated with death and the afterlife, this power animal from shamanistic times is full of magic. From the Greek swan goddess Leda to R. Wagner's ‘Lohengrin’ or P.I. Tchaikovsky's ‘Swan Lake’, this motif has a mysteriously dominant presence in music and art. This myth, which is particularly alive in Finland, is traced in four movements. 1: The Secrets of Tuonela, 2: Elegy: The Dying Swan, 3: The Black Swan, 4: Passacaglia - The Swan Goddess.

The piano piece is inspired by the novel-biography SCHUBERT by Peter Härtling (1992), where he describes how the composer is consumed with love for the singer Therese Grob and stands nightly in the courtyard under her window. Verbatim quotation from Härtling's novel (page 91): "There his wild fantasies rage, and he stands miserably bent in the nocturnal courtyard, satisfying himself." It is an obscure night music with wild and tragic despair, and a love melody in the middle part. The work was commissioned by piano soloist Jelena Stojkovic

OCEAN PICTURES - THE SECRETS OF WATER The solo horn is the absolute ‘star’ in this symphonic painting of boundless vastness, sublimity, silence and stupendous soundscapes. Stylistically, it lies somewhere between postmodernism, sound research and the surrealism of recent film music. The focus is on extra-musical messages such as respect for creation and nature, ecological responsibility as a hymn-like call not to destroy the ocean-blue globe any further. Nationalism and egoism are countered by planetary coexistence as a necessary paradigm shift. These themes are to be conveyed above all by the solo horn, which is required to be technically virtuosic as well as melodically expressive. In order to centre the kaleidoscopic diversity of motifs and fragments, the composition is based on a recurring 12-tone row and its inversion.

...dreamin' backwards to my former time mistress' ...combines modern tonality with the soundscapes of the Italian Trecento: „La Manfredina“ (kept as a manuscript in the British Library) and is one of the earliest and best-known document of courtly music. The solo for alto recorder takes the listener on a dream journey from the 21st century back to this courtly world, a world that seems foreign and dark but also like a fascinating reminder of the Archaic period.

FATAL HARMONIES for Viola and Strings is a transcription of the Cello Concerto FATAL HARMONIES OF BLACK SWEETNESS / Variations on Gesualdos „Moro, lasso, al mio duolo“ The death wish and dark atmosphere in Gesualdo's Madrigal was leading to daring harmony and to a musical expression based on contrasts, surrealism and surprising changes of moods.

The references to Bach are manifold: the basic idea was to write a 'Crucifixus' over the famous ostinato bass from Bach's Mass in B minor and to do justice to the magnificent painful tone of the original. In addition, there are other Bach references: for example, the interwoven tone motif B-A-C-H or the formal idea of his organ piece 'Toccata, Adagio and Fugue'. Commissioned by the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet. A monumental work that is very popular and is available in two CD recordings.

The Cello Concerto No. 2 – performed only with string orchestra – refers to Carlo Gesualdo (1560–1613), one of the most daring and enigmatic composers. His madrigal artistry harmonically anticipates Wagner's era and is unprecedented for its time. The background to the ‘death’ as a permanent motif in his compositions is his murder of his beautiful wife Maria d'Avalos. The cello concerto takes up the dark sweetness that dominates Gesualdo's madrigal art and which is summed up in none of his madrigals as succinctly as in Moro, lasso, al mio duolo from the year of his death, 1613 (from the 6th madrigal book). The striking chord sequences C sharp major / A minor / B major / G major are taken up as a leitmotif. There is also a viola concerto and a string quintet (Vl1+2, Vla, Vc1+2). The veneration of birds extends from our own day, for example in John Lennon's quote "Tame Birds sing of Freedom. Wild birds fly" to the earliest megalithic origins of mankind. All deities of all cults and religions were always connected with those bird creatures that descended directly from the dinosaurs and represented the intangible soul, which could detach itself from the earth at any time and disappear into the immateriality of the sky. The composition gives a great chance to the trumpet soloist, to demonstrate all their skills.

A very important CD release for me, because it presents - for the first time - Reinhold Friedrich, an excellent soloist, who is supported by congenial partners: Hannes Läubin (trumpet), Gregory Ahss (solo violin), Munich Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Martín Baeza-Rubio. The wisdom and magic of birds has been documented since prehistoric times: Birds are messengers between heaven and earth, they were assigned to goddesses and gods, they are symbolic figures in myths, fairy tales and all religions, they seem to know about secrets and the future. Alchemy, with its Arabic roots, knows that the development of the human "soul" leads from the primordial blackness and its opposite, the white, to the subtlety of the astral world, and has typified this with bird beings. This is the central theme of this violin concerto, which deliberately shimmers in Eastern and Arabic diction. As a commission for the multicultural BRIDGES Chamber Orchestra and the Israeli violinist Itamar Zorman, this archaic-eastern ductus can also be experienced in the interpretation. - The focus is on the Catalan song "El Cant des Ocells" (Song of the birds), which cellist Pablo Casals played as a peace melody in each of his concerts as an encore. The work is also dedicated to him on the 50th anniversary of his death.

"Water" is one of the most commonly used words in the Bible and is a synonym for "life". Already in the Old Testament one finds an intuitive assignment of the meaning of "holy water" to the Holy Spirit, that fluid which the Indians call "Great Spirit", Chinese spirituality "Chi" and the natural sciences "ether" or "quantum field". The present choral work combines the significant and enigmatic utterances from "Revelation" with the mention of water in the creation myth of Genesis. The authors of that time had no technical terms to conceptualize the primordial state of matter as "vacuum", "plasma" or "quantum field" and used the term "water" for this. From the point of view of the latest physics, a phrase such as "The Spirit of God hovered over the water" can thus be seen as an extremely coherent description of the beginning of the world: matter is born of spirit and vacuum!

INNER WORLDS are eight symphonic paintings from opera BAHNWÄRTER THIEL - TRACKMAN THIEL (based on the novellistic study of the Nobel Prize Winner in Literature Gerhart Hauptmann). Thiel is - comparable to "Wozzeck" - tragic figure in a social drama: very sensitive, full of visions and pictures, nightmares, but in silence without any loud expression... His existence is shattered, he looses his son with train accident, he gets crazy and schizoid - and murders in madness his wife and the other child.

Renaissance composer GESUALDO has a weird and unique biography which is directly related to his outstanding (and from today’s view) avantgardistic style of composing. Gesualdo was the model for this emotionally stirring string quintet. With it’s two Violoncelli there is a certainly intended proximity tot he famous string quintet in C major of Franz Schubert...both together could wonderfully form a chamber music program.

Divine creation encompasses a world of bacteria, viruses, insects, ants, which is foreign to us and only becomes accessible to us in its beauty under the microscope. SILENT PRELUDES... for organ and sound design leads us into the silence of this cosmos and these brothers and sisters of man, true to the motto: "And God created all creatures that live and weave...". Genesis 1,21). - And we learn the value of silence: SILENCE... From Laotse's "Silence and tranquillity bring the world into balance" to the statement of the cultural philosopher Max Picard (1888-1965) "Nothing has changed man so much as the loss of silence" we find this value documented. Loneliness and silence were an indispensable basis for all creative people. Thus Meister Eckhart, who as a mystic inspired all philosophers of modern times: "The eternal word is only spoken in silence", or Khalil Gibran: "Silence is the bride between the souls".

LAUDATO SI’ – MUSIC FROM REGENSBURG The fact that Pope Francis named his encyclical about central questions of a holistic ecology after the refrain from the solar song of the St Francis of Assisi 'Laudato si' and thereby strongly connected himself to his name model may be understood as a pontificial prologue to the program of this CD. Because also this CD is about nature, creation, its mystical admiration and glorification: The sun, the moon, the stars and all creatures are praised in the solar song; the musical themes of the Organ Symphony No. 12 are dove, water and firestorm; the 13th Organ Symphony in its entirety is dedicated to "the moon" as designer of our daily moods; and the Toccata Jubilissimo exaggerates everything by its cheer.

A violin concerto as lyrical as it is virtuosic on a spiritual theme: just as, according to Hildegard von Bingen's vision, the eyes are the window to the soul, so with the earth the dark blue lakes are the windows to the primordial vibration of our planet. A violin concerto that combines virtuoso gestures with the emotionality of epic themes, bringing an alpine landscape of lakes to the listener.

The "GOLDFINGER VARIATIONS" are dedicated to the memory of the brilliant actor Gert Fröbe (1913 - 1988), who so unforgettably played the role of the pathologically malicious and power-addicted title character in the 1964 James Bond film "Goldfinger"... and in a lot of other German movies. As composer in residence at the Berlin Chamber Philharmonic "METAMORPHOSEN" was composed for this work for a concert programme "Magic of Crime", which will be presented at the Berlin Philharmonic on 27 May 2022 and at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie on 12 June 2022.

A large work to commemorate the legacy left by Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) in his 8th Symphony in C minor. This homage to Bruckner finds a musical counterpart in the choral "Wachet auf ruft uns die Stimme" This is regarded as the 'house chorale' of the Cathedral of St. Mary in Erfurt, whre this symphony was premiered. Movement 1: Metamorphoses introduces mystically the main themes from Bruckner´s 8th Symphony. Movement 2: Scherzo sinistro conjures up a sinister atmosphere, echoing Bruckner's liking for the macabre, ghoulish and necrophilic. Movement 3: Adagio is built upon darkly glowingtriplet figures, like those previously introduced by Bruckner in a quotation of the Liebestod theme from Wagner's Tristan and Isolde. Movement 4: Finale combines the chorale melody "Wachet auf" with the incisive syncopated rhythm of Bruckner's finale - initially in a dramatic minor setting.

Besides the magic symphonic Poem LILITH – about the proto-woman of bible and mythologies – we find on this CD works for Cello & orchestra with the unique LÁZLÓ FENYÖ. He combines unfiltered emotionality with a stupende technique of cello playing and musical intelligence. The great concerto DUGUD stands on equal footing with more chamber music-like works as SULAMITH or the enigmatic variations on Gesualdo FATAL HARMONIES

The piece of success of the vocal ensemble SINGPHONIKER was for almost 20 years the VARIATIONS ABOUT LOVE...after erotic personals texts. Nowadays, after the internet has replaced the newspapers, it was time to "digitalize" the topic as well and to caricature the modern form of contact search with its madness of abbreviations and speed and to get to the point emotionally. - The work was also recorded on the CD of the same name by OEHMS Classics. We spend more times with dreaming than with any other activity. - By my techniques of composing I feel very connected to surrealism: as irreality is depressingly connected to tangible reality, where spiritual transcendence is connected to banalities of daily life, I am trying to compose an unreal kind of music by techniques of composing such as collage, confrontation, metamorphosis, disguise, leaps in time and pace overlaps, I am trying to convert familiarity and banality into something unknown.... One hundred years ago in October 1921, SIDDHARTA by Hermann Hesse (1877-1962) was published, which became his most popular novel worldwide, translated into 50 languages and acclaimed many millions of times. The saxophone concert is inspired by this and outlines as a tribute to Hermann Hesse the search for meaning in general: an endless path! Always between light and dark, from the courtesan Kamala as a mysterious companion, the "child-people" as rather superficial contemporaries busily caught up only in the material world, to the wisdom of the river as recognised by the ferryman. An epilogue hints at the goal of an afterlife: the shadowless light that all people will encounter - as is reported 1000-fold across the globe in near-death experiences.

FLUTE STORIES - ABOUT WATER, TREES AND A CHINESE CONCUBINE With the internationally outstanding interpreters Lukasz Dlugosz and - in the double concerto - Agata Kielar-Dlugosz, multi-faceted music for flute and orchestra is presented here. All of them have in common a narrative keynote that refers to natural themes such as water and trees, but also to the famous concubine Yang Guifei of ancient China. She is credited with the cultivation and courtly spread of flute playing. This Asian colouring of the last work also builds a bridge to the double concerto at the beginning of the CD, where "water" is explicitly presented as a symbol of Daoism and spiritual metaphor.

SANCTA TRINITAS, the „Holy Trinity“ is a triple path to understand the infinity of God and the depth oft he universe and it is a wonderful theological metaphor: in a archetypical sense it is the profound structure of many others religions as well as of the modern quantum physics. Open mindes you should read the Holy Trinity as I: The Creator and the Origin, II: The Love, III: The World Spirit and the etheric power.

Yang Guifei (719-756) was one of the "Four Beauties" of ancient China and the favorite concubine of Tang Emperor Xuanzong (685-762). Elevated to the status of "Guifei" of the emperor at the age of 26, she made the court a center of art and culture, where she herself danced, sang and played the flute. It came to the revolt and escape. Yang Guifei was caught and demanded her death: she hanged herself from a tree with silk cord. The flute concerto tells this life in musical sounds. It can be played on the Chinese dizi (bamboo flute) or on the western concert flute.

This 16th organ symphony introduces into the life of MARTIN LUTHER. Life and work of Martin Luther seem to be quite well-known and researched. Nevertheless, this man's immense life work is traversed by riddles and contradictions: as a man of spirit and pointing to the modern Enlightenment a lot of his business remained in the medieval Gothic dark. A man between God and devil, to which he remained bound by almost superstition. He seems to have been taken over a lifelong fear of witches, black ravens and demons from his mother. A person, who oscillated between silent mystical depth and sometimes fearlessness, which tended to be radical impulsiveness (associated with contentiousness and dogmatism) A fascinating person....

Long before humans existed from prehistoric times, birds originated - as mysterious miraculous creatures. They are intelligent, can sing or communicate almost by speech. That is why the bird was revered as a messenger of the gods in all cultures. Birds connect this world with the hereafter, which is why they were believed to have transcendent knowledge and were often consulted as oracles. Each bird has its own symbolism, which is quite uniform worldwide. In the "Cant dels Ocells", a Catalan folk song, over thirty species of birds hail the birth of Christ. The connection of birds with wisdom and a natural spirituality is wonderfully documented here. The great Catalan humanist Pau Casals (1876-1973) also knew this when he ended all his exile concerts since 1939 with an arrangement for violoncello and piano. With the message of the birds, he was for a peaceful world without wars or oppression, for freedom. That the premiere will take place in the Catalan basilica SAGRADA FAMILIA, the landmark of Barcelona, in April 2023, the 50th anniversary of the death of Pau Casals, is a pleasure and a great honour. The work was composed especially for this occasion and wishes to be dedicated to Pau Casals with great reverence.

Damit oszilliert LONGING FOR ANCIENT TIMES zwischen konzertantem Anspruch und einem so sehnsüchtigen wie romantischen Gestus der zur kulturellen Identität gewordenen Lieder. Es geht um Orte wie Heidelberg, Lorelei am Rhein, der Hexenberg Brocken, im Volksmund "Blocksberg" im Harz, um das mittelalterliche Rothenburg ob der Tauber und zum Trompeter von Säckingen am Hochrhein.

With the CD "DREAMING OF A BETTER WORLD" two wellknown Polish artists Lukasz Dlugosz (Fl) and Roman Perucki (Org) are presenting works by Enjott Schneider. Recorded in Juyi 2025 in Gdansk/Poland in the Baltic Philharmony 'Frederic Chopin' at Kuhn-Organ. A fine selection of silent and positive pieces of music. They will enrich the repertoire of this celestial combination Flute & Organ.

Das Orgelkonzert Nr. 3 CHOPINIADE ist ein Kompositionsauftrag für die Polnische Baltische Philharmonie "Frédéric Chopin" in Danzig zur Uraufführung bei den Internationalen Oliwa-Orgelfestspielen durch Prof. Roman Perucki, den Festivalleiter und Intendant der Baltischen Philharmonie. In vier Sätzen werden in Art eines Mosaik-Portäts Episoden und Stimmungen dieses hochverehrten Nationalkomponisten aneinandergereiht. Ein letztlich von unstillbarer Sehnsucht geprägtes Leben, das in der zweiten Lebenshälfte vornehmlich in Paris - fern der Heimat - sich ereignete. Hoch und Tief, Zuspruch und Einsamkeit sind die Kontraste dieser letztlich doch genialen Aussenseiter-Existenz. Ein aus den Notenbuchstaben des Namens "F E D E C C H" entwickeltes Leitmotiv verbindet alle Sätze, die jedoch öfters auch mit originalen Zitaten aus Chopin's Kompositionen durchsetzt sind und so eine sinnliche Nähe garantieren.

FRANKENSTEIN - PSYCHOGRAM OF THE MONSTROUS for String Orchestra & Sound Design, Inspired by text fragments from Mary Shelley: "Frankenstein" (London 1818,Paris 1821), is a work that can be performed with a large string orchestra or chamber orchestra to atmospheric playbacks of electronics and sounds, but can also be expanded into a melodrama with an actor. It can be staged ad libitum as a ballet or music theatre. The genesis of "FRANKENSTEIN is as exciting as the story itself. Mary Shelley wrote this novella at the age of 18. She travelled through Europe in 1815 and stayed in Gernsheim, close to Frankenstein Castle.

The reality of the angels is closely connected with the existence of that comprehensive intelligence of the universe which many religions also call "God" and which cannot be experienced with the mind but only with cosmic consciousness. GOD as the universal "All-One" is nameless, immaterial and a spiritual principle. The angels are the messengers of this nameless primal principle of all being. In the arts and religious narratives, "angels" have become binding, trivialised and far too materially conceived. All hierarchies or differentiations are only man-made and e.g. hardly mentioned in the Bible, where there are also only Gabriel, Michael and Raphael by name. "Gabriel" means "The Power of God". As the guardian of the white ray of light, he stands for purity and clarity. He is the angel of the Annunciation, pointing to new beginnings and spiritual rebirth. - The oratorio EKSTASE DER REINHEIT is an attempt to grasp the phenomenon of angels, which is located in the sphere of the conceptless, as messengers of a universal dimension.

The birst Version of this lyrical piece was composed in 1996 nfor the movie JENSEITS DER STILLE by Carolin Link. It was reviswed in 2021 for a CD-production with Birgit Stoltzenburg (Dulcimer) and Slava Cernavka (clarinet). The dark sound of a viola is also a fine alternative for the sound of the clarinet.

In ever new life cycles the human soul perfects itself.... And each new life is a cycle of its own, like the Yin & Yang... Good and evil, light and dark are in constant change. In the piano piece, this contrast is huge - frantic haste in the Toccata and motionless stillness in the Adagio... You have to be able to endure it.

The darkness of the Passion and the brightness of the Resurrection are metaphors of the dualistic principle of creation that permeate all cultures: from Yin & Yang to the wheel of Fortuna. Light and shadow are interdependent, are one. In orchestral and choral works this principle is made emotionally comprehensible, which can be particularly focused in the Christian world view by the two poles Good Friday and Easter.

Gustav Mahler named his friend Hans Rott ‚the most gifted colleague’ in the composition class of Anton Bruckner. Hans wrote in early years a gigantic Symphony Nr. 1... but Johannes Brahms refused this symphony: From this disappointment arose a psychosis and a persecution mania... and Hans died very young with 26 years in a mad house in Vienna. Enjott Schneider arranged fragments of piano songs of Hans Rott, which mostly revolve around the theme of „death“. These late-romantic songs were orchestrated and commented by contemporary music.... In this way Enjott Schneider created a journey of sorrow and joy.... to the darkness of mental aberration.

DAS GLASPERLENSPIEL - In memoriam Hermann Hesse (1877 – 1962) is commissioned by „Internationaler Musikwettbewerbs der ARD“ The work reflects on Nobel Prize winner Hermann Hesse's last novel: The Glass Bead Game. An Attempt at a Biography of Magister Ludi Josef Knecht, Including Knecht's Posthumous Writings (1943, Zurich). It does not seek to be ‘glass music’ in order to reconstruct the hypothetical sound of the enigmatic game. Above all, it refers to the painful process of writing this novel, which paralysed and radicalised creative energy at the same time as the rise of National Socialism: During his exile in Switzerland, Hermann Hesse struggled to survive the barbarism of Hitler's regime by countering the lack of freedom and spiritlessness of a society that had become inhuman and focused solely on material things with a sublime world of pure spirit. The result was a multifaceted organ work that combines the finest tones, a ‘spiritual glass bead code’ and utopian sound visions with a dramatic, virtuoso gesture and phases of abysmal darkness. Many musical details are directly influenced by Hermann Hesse's comments, whether from the novel itself or from countless letters.

The Epic of Gilgamesh is about 5,000 years old, exists in eleven ancient Babylonian cuneiform tablets and is one of the oldest literary texts in verse form. Since it refers to original Sumerian versions (also in cuneiform), its origins are still very much in the dark. If one takes into account the pre-Eastronautical research of the extraterrestrial "gods" of the Anunaki, which is now seriously documented, one enters a fascinating no-man's land that deals with the creation of man and the developmentally erratic and still inexplicable beginning of culture - astronomical, medical and mathematical knowledge indicate a high level of knowledge of a civilisation before the Flood, which is also archaeologically documented. The Heidelberg assyrologist Stefan Maul is an international luminary with his chair and has translated and commented on the Gilgamesh epic in an epoch-making new way. Without venturing onto the scientific slippery slope of many obvious speculations, his research and commentaries are objectively assured: thus, in any case, the certainty remains that the Babylonian-Sumerian account of the Flood as the focus of the Gilgamesh Epic represents the older blueprint for the biblical version: the archetype of the biblical Noah is the Uta-Napishti presented here.
