A ROSE IS A ROSE Interludes for organ
The rose - is the symbol of Venus, of Holy Mary, but also unites love with thorns and suffering! The name “A ROSE IS A ROSE IS A ROSES” comes from the American poet Gertrude Stein in her poem SACRED EMILY (1913) The atmosphere of these interludes contains something of the mysterious symbolism associated with the rose, whose dual nature embodies love, innocence, piety and oerfect beauty - as well as pain, desire and those thorns. Some of the interludes are fine and delicate, while others are brusque and harsh, yet essentially they belong together: "A Rose is a Rose...' - and some secrets remain unfathomable. CD IM NAMEN DER ROSE Sacred Music Series Vol. 7 Organ Symphony Nr. 9 "Pathetique" and requiem "Im Namen der Rose"
Pain and suffering is not only the theme of the 9th Organ Symphony PATHETIQUE (played by Johannes Skudlik) but also of the unusual Requiem IN THE NAME OF THE ROSE for countertenor and organ. Valer Barna Sabadus - who has long since become a stage star - could be won over for this recording and sings with the beauty of a female soprano to heights never heard before. He sings of the love of the rose, of Mary, but also of the thorns, which refer to medieval torture, burns and other horrors. Each part then culminates in a fragmentary requiem text. -

PRELUDE EN ROSE has a circular, mysteriously shifted but dance-like rhythm. In this spiralling glide, the mystical and floating nature of the archetype of the ‘rose’ comes to the fore particularly vividly: with pain & suffering, blossoms & thorns, the beauty of the rose is something ambivalent, which - also through the fivefold structure of blossoms and leaves - has made it a symbol of love, Venus or Holy Mary. -

This 16th organ symphony introduces into the life of MARTIN LUTHER. Life and work of Martin Luther seem to be quite well-known and researched. Nevertheless, this man's immense life work is traversed by riddles and contradictions: as a man of spirit and pointing to the modern Enlightenment a lot of his business remained in the medieval Gothic dark. A man between God and devil, to which he remained bound by almost superstition. He seems to have been taken over a lifelong fear of witches, black ravens and demons from his mother. A person, who oscillated between silent mystical depth and sometimes fearlessness, which tended to be radical impulsiveness (associated with contentiousness and dogmatism) A fascinating person.... -

Erik Satie (1866-1925) was a forward thinker and oddball who opposed the gigantism and bombast of the fin de ciècle with a reduction and almost "ecological turnaround" to the simple and natural. John Cage and many apologists of new music recognized here a legendary milestone on the way to a modernity characterized by objectivity and honesty. An odd person who uncompromisingly led an artist's life in the precarious world ...and like once the court jester held up the mirror to an extraverted society! Reading and understanding a Satie biography can change a life, so much so that his existence expressed the essential question marks of being. - With piano and conga, an epitaph is played unconventionally to this misunderstood person - shrill, disturbing, simple and against all expectations. -

Genesis 1,21). - And we learn the value of silence: SILENCE... From Laotse's "Silence and tranquillity bring the world into balance" to the statement of the cultural philosopher Max Picard (1888-1965) "Nothing has changed man so much as the loss of silence" we find this value documented. Loneliness and silence were an indispensable basis for all creative people. Trees are personified forces of mother earth. For thousands of years they have been sung about, worshipped, immortalized in stories, myths and fairy tales. Each type of tree represents an individual psychological figure in the sense of an archetype. It is also astonishing how interculturally similar forces and beings are assigned to trees in legends or in medicine. Not only today, but also in the ancient cultures of the Egyptians, Chinese, Mayans, Persians and Greeks. Many poets and philosophers have expressed their fascination with the subject of "trees". A tree is the symbol of the earth's connection to cosmic and divine powers. German poet Hermann Hesse, for example, wrote "Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to talk to them, who knows how to listen to them, experiences the truth". -
ORGAN SYMPHONY NR.9 PATHÉTIQUE for organ
Organ Symphony No. 9 'Pathetique' teils a story of torment, struggle, wrangling with fate, flagellation, the gruesome crucifixion and the silence of the tomb. In style it pays homage to its older sister work, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony 'Pathetique', where the subtext relates Tchaikovsky's own struggles through life as a path of suffering culminating in his own death. Tchaikovsky's work inspired the tempo indications (including the idea of an emotional adagio as finale) and many of the musical ideas used here, with heightening of intensity, abrupt changes and powerful accumulation of emotion, full of pathos. The first performance was given by Johannes Skudlik on 22 July 2009 in the Frauenkirche in Munich. -

GABRIEL – ECSTASY OF PURITY Oratorium für Sopran, Tenor, Chor & Orchester
The reality of the angels is closely connected with the existence of that comprehensive intelligence of the universe which many religions also call "God" and which cannot be experienced with the mind but only with cosmic consciousness. GOD as the universal "All-One" is nameless, immaterial and a spiritual principle. The angels are the messengers of this nameless primal principle of all being. In the arts and religious narratives, "angels" have become binding, trivialised and far too materially conceived. All hierarchies or differentiations are only man-made and e.g. hardly mentioned in the Bible, where there are also only Gabriel, Michael and Raphael by name. "Gabriel" means "The Power of God". As the guardian of the white ray of light, he stands for purity and clarity. He is the angel of the Annunciation, pointing to new beginnings and spiritual rebirth. - The oratorio EKSTASE DER REINHEIT is an attempt to grasp the phenomenon of angels, which is located in the sphere of the conceptless, as messengers of a universal dimension. -

The BELL is an archetype of sound and human existence. For thousands of years it has accompanied people at birth, celebrations, sacred acts, at work, war, hardship and death. It has sounded at death cults, processions and funeral marches. The bridge to the transcendent and the immaterial world was usually made of the sound of bells, whose "sacred" vibrations offered protection against mischief, evil forces and demons. The history of the bell, which goes back some seven thousand years, goes far beyond the Christian Occident, where the Eurocentric view likes to see the sound of bells as being at home. Especially in the Chinese Bronze Age, bells become archaeologically tangible. Symphony No. 8 makes this archaic diversity emotionally tangible by picking out exemplary stations from the wealth of legends, materials and history -

THE MAGIC OF CHAMBER MUSIC This CD is the first in a series of releases of Enjott Schneider's chamber music on the Ambiente-Audio label as "CMS - Chamber Music Series": in contrast to the large and rather anonymous orchestral sound, the works of chamber music allow the performers a high degree of individuality, freedom and personal profile. In addition, unusual ideas and instrumentations can be realized here - far from socialized standardization - as in a research laboratory. I'm very thankful to have gathered for this recording a group of outstanding soloists, - which performed the program first in a acclaimed Live-Concert at Seidl-Villa in Munich, - and then in a extremely detailled 3Days-production. New music meets ancient music ... Current timbre of modern music is combined with the spirit of past centuries and creates new worlds full of fantasy and surprising to disturbing twists. The sound journey goes back to the Italian Trecento after 1200, to the English mystic and artist William Blake (1757-1827), to Franz Schubert (1797-1828), Robert Schumann (1810-1856) and to Erik Satie (1866-1925). -

Nowadays, after the internet has replaced the newspapers, it was time to "digitalize" the topic as well and to caricature the modern form of contact search with its madness of abbreviations and speed and to get to the point emotionally. - The work was also recorded on the CD of the same name by OEHMS Classics. In the booklet pages (reproduced below) you can find all the details about this witty composition, which is also available from Schott-Verlag Mainz in a sheet music edition for mixed choir and piano. -
