Ein Konzert, das einige der berühmtesten historische Ecken im romantischen Deutschland beschreibt: als musikalische Impressionen, die jeweils dazu passend typische Melodien der Volksmusik zitieren. Damit oszilliert LONGING FOR ANCIENT TIMES zwischen konzertantem Anspruch und einem so sehnsüchtigen wie romantischen Gestus der zur kulturellen Identität gewordenen Lieder. Es geht um Orte wie Heidelberg, Lorelei am Rhein, der Hexenberg Brocken, im Volksmund "Blocksberg" im Harz, um das mittelalterliche Rothenburg ob der Tauber und zum Trompeter von Säckingen am Hochrhein.

JUBILUS for 2 trumpets, 2 trombones & organ

JUBILUS are variations on an archaic form of melismatic melodic writing without words. The form was used in the ancient Orient, in classical antiquity, in synagogue chants and in early christian times; written musical examples forming part of the "Alleluia", have survived from medieval times. Its underlying mood is positive, full of joy and confidence. A great task for the performers who need technical skills and high musicality.

ORGAN SYMPHONY NO. 17: ‘THE SWAN’ - A mythical journey with Jean Sibelius was composed as a commission for the American organist James D. Hicks. As a tribute to the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957), his legendary ‘THE SWAN OF TUONELA’ forms the starting point for a mythological journey: The ‘swan’ is a myth that has been of central importance in all cultures since the world-creating earth goddess. A symbol of angelic purity, but also closely associated with death and the afterlife, this power animal from shamanistic times is full of magic. From the Greek swan goddess Leda to R. Wagner's ‘Lohengrin’ or P.I. Tchaikovsky's ‘Swan Lake’, this motif has a mysteriously dominant presence in music and art. This myth, which is particularly alive in Finland, is traced in four movements. 1: The Secrets of Tuonela, 2: Elegy: The Dying Swan, 3: The Black Swan, 4: Passacaglia - The Swan Goddess.

Seldom do people come so close to "religion" (in the sense of "religio" with its links to ancient traditions) as in this inward-looking time.

DREAMDANCERS , - a trip to the realities of the night - is about people who live in the weightlessness of the dream . The dream - called "royal path to the unconscious" by Sigmund Freud - shows our soul in the purest form with its mysterious infinity. We spend more times with dreaming than with any other activity. - By my techniques of composing I feel very connected to surrealism: as irreality is depressingly connected to tangible reality, where spiritual transcendence is connected to banalities of daily life, I am trying to compose an unreal kind of music by techniques of composing such as collage, confrontation, metamorphosis, disguise, leaps in time and pace overlaps, I am trying to convert familiarity and banality into something unknown.... LE DONNE DI SANDRO BOTTICELLI. TRITTICO PER ORCHESTRA The Women of Sandro Botticelli

In the colourful imagery of the timeless beauty of the Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510), female figures dominate: ancient goddesses, nymphs and Madonnas. The Botticelli triptych refers to three paintings in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence to present sound-scented miniatures inspired by these, rather light and serene, characterised by dance. In the opening concert of the Passau Festival, the triptych will be heard alongside Mendelssohn's "Italian Symphony" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream", undoubtedly evoking these masterpieces of lightness and joie de vivre.
THE SEVEN FINAL WORDS OF CHRIST for choir and ensemble

The crucifixion was probably the most brutal form of execution: with endless pain and in the deeply humiliating nakedness of the blazing sun, it was an agonising death, bleeding to death and dying of thirst. For this reason, this setting deliberately resorts to a harsh, woodcut-like gesture that combines archaic elements of medieval tonality (long drones, ostinati and bell-like repetitions) with the possibilities of more modern stylistic devices to create highly expressive and emotional music. The instrumental scoring is unusual: four trombones (the mighty trombones of the Apocalypse) announce the end, the percussion is hammering, also used very ritually and combines - quite unusually - above all with the organ to create a sometimes merciless sound scenario. BAUMWELTEN - WORLDS OF TREE for Flute, string orchestra and harp

Trees are personified forces of mother earth. For thousands of years they have been sung about, worshipped, immortalized in stories, myths and fairy tales. Each type of tree represents an individual psychological figure in the sense of an archetype. It is also astonishing how interculturally similar forces and beings are assigned to trees in legends or in medicine. Not only today, but also in the ancient cultures of the Egyptians, Chinese, Mayans, Persians and Greeks. Many poets and philosophers have expressed their fascination with the subject of "trees". A tree is the symbol of the earth's connection to cosmic and divine powers. German poet Hermann Hesse, for example, wrote "Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to talk to them, who knows how to listen to them, experiences the truth".

DAS GLASPERLENSPIEL - In memoriam Hermann Hesse (1877 – 1962) is commissioned by „Internationaler Musikwettbewerbs der ARD“ The work reflects on Nobel Prize winner Hermann Hesse's last novel: The Glass Bead Game. An Attempt at a Biography of Magister Ludi Josef Knecht, Including Knecht's Posthumous Writings (1943, Zurich). It does not seek to be ‘glass music’ in order to reconstruct the hypothetical sound of the enigmatic game. Above all, it refers to the painful process of writing this novel, which paralysed and radicalised creative energy at the same time as the rise of National Socialism: During his exile in Switzerland, Hermann Hesse struggled to survive the barbarism of Hitler's regime by countering the lack of freedom and spiritlessness of a society that had become inhuman and focused solely on material things with a sublime world of pure spirit. The result was a multifaceted organ work that combines the finest tones, a ‘spiritual glass bead code’ and utopian sound visions with a dramatic, virtuoso gesture and phases of abysmal darkness. Many musical details are directly influenced by Hermann Hesse's comments, whether from the novel itself or from countless letters.
AUGEN DER ERDE / EARTH’S EYE Violin Concert

A violin concerto as lyrical as it is virtuosic on a spiritual theme: just as, according to Hildegard von Bingen's vision, the eyes are the window to the soul, so with the earth the dark blue lakes are the windows to the primordial vibration of our planet. A violin concerto that combines virtuoso gestures with the emotionality of epic themes, bringing an alpine landscape of lakes to the listener.
PANTA RHEI Mantras for saxophone quartet

PANTA RHEI ("Everything flows") is the quintessence of the ancient philosopher Heraclitus and inspired the composition on the one hand to a minimal music or pattern style, on the other hand to the Asian meditation form of the "mantra": in Hinduism and Buddhism sacred sentences, repetition of syllables and words leading to the subconscious. Movement 1 is a flowing preludio, movement 2 is a micro-dance of Liquid Chrystals (the crystals of LCD displays were discovered by Otto Lehmann as early as 1900), movement 3 is a homage to Viktor Schauberger (1885-1958), a pioneering and ecological mastermind of new forms of energy, movement 4 becomes very groovy and powerful: the goal of this composition.
GABRIEL – ECSTASY OF PURITY Oratorium für Sopran, Tenor, Chor & Orchester

The reality of the angels is closely connected with the existence of that comprehensive intelligence of the universe which many religions also call "God" and which cannot be experienced with the mind but only with cosmic consciousness. GOD as the universal "All-One" is nameless, immaterial and a spiritual principle. The angels are the messengers of this nameless primal principle of all being. In the arts and religious narratives, "angels" have become binding, trivialised and far too materially conceived. All hierarchies or differentiations are only man-made and e.g. hardly mentioned in the Bible, where there are also only Gabriel, Michael and Raphael by name. "Gabriel" means "The Power of God". As the guardian of the white ray of light, he stands for purity and clarity. He is the angel of the Annunciation, pointing to new beginnings and spiritual rebirth. - The oratorio EKSTASE DER REINHEIT is an attempt to grasp the phenomenon of angels, which is located in the sphere of the conceptless, as messengers of a universal dimension.

THE MAGIC OF CHAMBER MUSIC This CD is the first in a series of releases of Enjott Schneider's chamber music on the Ambiente-Audio label as "CMS - Chamber Music Series": in contrast to the large and rather anonymous orchestral sound, the works of chamber music allow the performers a high degree of individuality, freedom and personal profile. In addition, unusual ideas and instrumentations can be realized here - far from socialized standardization - as in a research laboratory. I'm very thankful to have gathered for this recording a group of outstanding soloists, - which performed the program first in a acclaimed Live-Concert at Seidl-Villa in Munich, - and then in a extremely detailled 3Days-production. New music meets ancient music ... Current timbre of modern music is combined with the spirit of past centuries and creates new worlds full of fantasy and surprising to disturbing twists. The sound journey goes back to the Italian Trecento after 1200, to the English mystic and artist William Blake (1757-1827), to Franz Schubert (1797-1828), Robert Schumann (1810-1856) and to Erik Satie (1866-1925).
