ELIA - THE SECRET WORLD BEYOND Prologue to Mendelssohn's Oratorio op. 70 Elias

In the Prophet Elijah we find power politics, battle, curse and killing in the name of God, combined with mantic abilities like oath spells and black magic. Miracles accompany his life. - As a reaction to the overwhelmingly extensive prehistoric research with its results of an extraterrestrial intelligence (astronomical-technological knowledge; use of missiles etc.) one must not ask without reason: Was the "God" of Elijah an alien who led him as his vassal? So was the ascension of Elijah in reality an ascent in the fire and smoke of spacecraft? Was his "fire from heaven", with which he destroyed enemies, the fire of weapons and bombs? - This work "Elia - The Secret World Beyond" deals with the unknown and mysterious. It is an orchestral meditation that is supposed to make us "float" and kidnap us from all too entrenched preconceptions of being.
THE SECRET OF DEMONS & SPIRITS for Sheng and Chinese Orchestra

Although Asia has long since become an industrial society with business world, the best universities and an impressive intellectual upper class, the hidden world of demons and spirits still plays a major role. This is also due to the high value placed on family, ancestors and the deceased. Gods, spirits and demons still cause illness and strokes of fate in everyday belief - despite all scientific enlightenment. These are sent by the ancestors as punishment for wrongdoing. Chinese mythology knows a wealth of monsters and evil forces that threaten man and order. The world of these myths is so rich and diverse that it can only be hinted at here in fragments. The composition "THE SECRET OF SPIRITS & DEMONS" attempts to highlight some of the constellations. In the solo sheng, the more personal emotions and fears can be found; the orchestra represents the mysterious of the demon world. During the Europe Tournee 2024 of the TCO with chief conductor Yu-An CHANG the composition will be performed in Praq and Dresden.

Trees are personified forces of mother earth. For thousands of years they have been sung about, worshipped, immortalized in stories, myths and fairy tales. Each type of tree represents an individual psychological figure in the sense of an archetype. It is also astonishing how interculturally similar forces and beings are assigned to trees in legends or in medicine. Not only today, but also in the ancient cultures of the Egyptians, Chinese, Mayans, Persians and Greeks. Many poets and philosophers have expressed their fascination with the subject of "trees". A tree is the symbol of the earth's connection to cosmic and divine powers. German poet Hermann Hesse, for example, wrote "Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to talk to them, who knows how to listen to them, experiences the truth".

Misunderstood by his contemporaries, he was discovered very late... in the 20th century by W.B. Yeats, the "Beat Poets" around A. 23 - NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS Thriller - Film by Hans-Christian Schmid

The film "23 - Nothing is as it seems" by Hans-Christian Schmid is one of my favourite films and best soundtracks, recorded with the City-of-Prague-Orchestra, with the wonderful sound of the glass harmonica (played by Dean Wilmington) and with music electronics developed over long periods of time. The dramaturgy: Synthesis sounds stand for the mysterious around the "Illuminati myth" and the world conspiracy...and are increasingly replaced by the warm orchestral sounds, the more the ominous death and disappearance of the protagonist Karl Koch occurs at the end of the film.
DREAMIN' BACKWARDS TO MY FORMER TIME MISTRESS for recorder (Alto) or Renaissance Flute

...dreamin' backwards to my former time mistress' ...combines modern tonality with the soundscapes of the Italian Trecento: „La Manfredina“ (kept as a manuscript in the British Library) and is one of the earliest and best-known document of courtly music. The solo for alto recorder takes the listener on a dream journey from the 21st century back to this courtly world, a world that seems foreign and dark but also like a fascinating reminder of the Archaic period.

With Stefan Blum (metal percussion) / David C. Panzl (wood percussion) Gabriel Venzago (conductor) / Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra - WOOD & METAL are two antagonistic worlds. Wood stands for the organic world. Wood is alive. Originating from solar energy, the use of wood is still a cycle of nature. Wood is the motor of our living ecosystem. Wood is intrinsically linked to the tree. Roots and bark are used to produce medicinal substances. Wood can be easily extracted from the earth's surface. Civilisation began destroying the planetary ecosystem thousands of years ago with "deforestation". Metal stands as a symbol for the inorganic world. With the use of metal - which presupposed fire - a liberation from naturalness was initiated. WOOD AND METAL are symbolised in two different percussion concerts. David Panzl built a setup from wooden materials ranging from buzzwood to elm bells. Stefan Blum collected "scrap metal" from rubbish dumps and arranged all the metallic colours of modern percussion around this "scrap".

DAS GLASPERLENSPIEL - In memoriam Hermann Hesse (1877 – 1962) is commissioned by „Internationaler Musikwettbewerbs der ARD“ The work reflects on Nobel Prize winner Hermann Hesse's last novel: The Glass Bead Game. An Attempt at a Biography of Magister Ludi Josef Knecht, Including Knecht's Posthumous Writings (1943, Zurich). It does not seek to be ‘glass music’ in order to reconstruct the hypothetical sound of the enigmatic game. Above all, it refers to the painful process of writing this novel, which paralysed and radicalised creative energy at the same time as the rise of National Socialism: During his exile in Switzerland, Hermann Hesse struggled to survive the barbarism of Hitler's regime by countering the lack of freedom and spiritlessness of a society that had become inhuman and focused solely on material things with a sublime world of pure spirit. The result was a multifaceted organ work that combines the finest tones, a ‘spiritual glass bead code’ and utopian sound visions with a dramatic, virtuoso gesture and phases of abysmal darkness. Many musical details are directly influenced by Hermann Hesse's comments, whether from the novel itself or from countless letters.

FRANKENSTEIN - PSYCHOGRAM OF THE MONSTROUS for String Orchestra & Sound Design, Inspired by text fragments from Mary Shelley: "Frankenstein" (London 1818,Paris 1821), is a work that can be performed with a large string orchestra or chamber orchestra to atmospheric playbacks of electronics and sounds, but can also be expanded into a melodrama with an actor. It can be staged ad libitum as a ballet or music theatre. The genesis of "FRANKENSTEIN is as exciting as the story itself. Mary Shelley wrote this novella at the age of 18. She travelled through Europe in 1815 and stayed in Gernsheim, close to Frankenstein Castle.

Trees are personified forces of the earth. For centuries they have been the subject of song, adoration, immortalisation in stories, myths, and fairy tales, as well as the use as a medical remedy. Every tree represents and individual psychological being in the context of an archetype. This is reflected clearly in the silhouette of the tree, the shape of the leaves, the structure of the bark, the energy potential of the growth of the tree, as well as the shape of the tree's fruit. Those characteristics are very similar to those of the human psychology.

ORGAN SYMPHONY NO. 17: ‘THE SWAN’ - A mythical journey with Jean Sibelius was composed as a commission for the American organist James D. Hicks. As a tribute to the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957), his legendary ‘THE SWAN OF TUONELA’ forms the starting point for a mythological journey: The ‘swan’ is a myth that has been of central importance in all cultures since the world-creating earth goddess. A symbol of angelic purity, but also closely associated with death and the afterlife, this power animal from shamanistic times is full of magic. From the Greek swan goddess Leda to R. Wagner's ‘Lohengrin’ or P.I. Tchaikovsky's ‘Swan Lake’, this motif has a mysteriously dominant presence in music and art. FLUTE STORIES - ABOUT WATER, TREES AND A CHINESE CONCUBINE With the internationally outstanding interpreters Lukasz Dlugosz and - in the double concerto - Agata Kielar-Dlugosz, multi-faceted music for flute and orchestra is presented here. All of them have in common a narrative keynote that refers to natural themes such as water and trees, but also to the famous concubine Yang Guifei of ancient China. She is credited with the cultivation and courtly spread of flute playing. This Asian colouring of the last work also builds a bridge to the double concerto at the beginning of the CD, where "water" is explicitly presented as a symbol of Daoism and spiritual metaphor.

In the "Tree Pictures", in the tradition of the "Celtic tree calendar", energetic characteristics of seven tree types are found, which can also be directly read as basic psychological patterns of human types. The wisdom and magic of birds has been documented since prehistoric times: Birds are messengers between heaven and earth, they were assigned to goddesses and gods, they are symbolic figures in myths, fairy tales and all religions, they seem to know about secrets and the future. Alchemy, with its Arabic roots, knows that the development of the human "soul" leads from the primordial blackness and its opposite, the white, to the subtlety of the astral world, and has typified this with bird beings. This is the central theme of this violin concerto, which deliberately shimmers in Eastern and Arabic diction. As a commission for the multicultural BRIDGES Chamber Orchestra and the Israeli violinist Itamar Zorman, this archaic-eastern ductus can also be experienced in the interpretation. - The focus is on the Catalan song "El Cant des Ocells" (Song of the birds), which cellist Pablo Casals played as a peace melody in each of his concerts as an encore. The work is also dedicated to him on the 50th anniversary of his death.

A highly sensitive and beautifully sad film: 14-year-old Franziska moves into a Swiss home, mountain village, where she lives isolated and in a strange environment. In the old cupboard she discovers letters from an unknown Maria. From these letters she learns the secrets of the mysterious house. The two girls are confronted with their delusions and reality, they love each other... until Franziska realizes that Maria committed suicide here 40 years ago... and Franziska stands now on the same rock where once her pen pal maria jumped to her death. The film music is based on the flute (Franziska) and cello (Maria) of this duo, accompanied by organ and piano. A cinematic icing on the cake: Five years later, the Maria theme with solo cello has become the well-known "Herbstmilch" / "Autumn Milk" theme: Director Joseph Vilsmaier had heard this music and immediately fell in love with the little melody, - wanted it for his film!
MOZART ASCENDING Musical thoughts about KV 293 for oboe & orchestra

MOZART - ENDLESS MYSTERY!!! - Based on the reconstruction of a fragment of the Oboe Concerto KV 293 - which was written at the death of his mother but unfinished - the question arises: "Who was this Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who confronts us with contradictions, an incomparable dissension, with dark unsolvable riddles and an ingenuity that can only be explained beyond? Emotions and contrasts are built up around Mozart's original text, shadows and darkness are sought behind its light, associations and fragments may come and go in a dreamlike way. His central fate, however, has a name: "Leopold! His father's hard hand and the hard drill full of privations were the dark side that belongs to the 'wunderkind'. MOZART ASCENDING is an attempt to make such a subtext behind a composition an emotional experience. In his "Amadeus" film about the figure of Salieri, Milos Forman has vividly demonstrated that the punishing commander in Don Giovanni is nothing other than Mozart's chaining to his father, who throughout his life reminded and controlled him as the epitome of conscience. The reality of the angels is closely connected with the existence of that comprehensive intelligence of the universe which many religions also call "God" and which cannot be experienced with the mind but only with cosmic consciousness. GOD as the universal "All-One" is nameless, immaterial and a spiritual principle. The angels are the messengers of this nameless primal principle of all being. In the arts and religious narratives, "angels" have become binding, trivialised and far too materially conceived. All hierarchies or differentiations are only man-made and e.g. hardly mentioned in the Bible, where there are also only Gabriel, Michael and Raphael by name. "Gabriel" means "The Power of God". As the guardian of the white ray of light, he stands for purity and clarity. He is the angel of the Annunciation, pointing to new beginnings and spiritual rebirth. - The oratorio EKSTASE DER REINHEIT is an attempt to grasp the phenomenon of angels, which is located in the sphere of the conceptless, as messengers of a universal dimension.
