Introduction: The composition was inspired by the painting of the same name by the surrealist Max Ernst (1891-1971) from 1960 (Pinakothek der Moderne, Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlung, 65x45 cm) which had fascinated me for a long time. The present work, which can also be seen as a homage to Max Ernst, uses, among other things, the stylistic devices of repetitive music to create the fluidity of the incomprehensible with the permanent rapid repetitions of a motif in ever new configurations beyond a controlling listening. Beyond reason, the sirens - those mythological hybrids of mermaids and birds - begin their singing ... which is capable of befogging and beguiling.
The piece was originally composed for Tenor Saxophone. There is an additional part for Alto saxophone.
