Introduction: This elegy is very cinematic: it was composed as the closing credits music for Florian Baxmeyer's 2013 psychological drama ‘Ohne Dich’ (Without You) for Odeon-TV Wiesbaden on behalf of Degeto/ARD. Martina (played by Stefanie Stappenbeck) mysteriously and suddenly loses her beloved boyfriend during a sailing holiday in Brittany. The search for the missing or dead man becomes a nightmare between hope, hallucination and a longing that turns into delusion.

This highly emotional motif has become one of my favourite melodies, which I have quoted and varied in several compositions: in BARAKA – BLESSING POWER for violin and piano, in the oratorio KABBALA – WEGE DES LICHTS (Kabbalah – Paths of Light), in the concerto for four cellos and orchestra PIK, KREUZ, DIAMOND & HEART, where it serves as the motif of the ‘Queen of Hearts’.
