Introduction: Enjott Schneider:
"MARIA. Elegy for Organ" is inspired by and a meditative music about the famous "Gnadenbild (votive picture) Mariahilf" (48 x 77 cm) by the painter Lucas Cranach the Elder created after 1537. It is located in the high altar of the Innsbruck Cathedral and is one of the most famous paintings of the Virgin Mary in the Alpine region and in Southern Germany. Countless copies of this painting exist for private prayer rooms. It has become the symbolization of "Mary, help of the Christians". A special feature of this Madonna is the simple sensuality: Mary is shown as a woman of gentle beauty - not showing attributes that are common for paintings of the Virgin Mary. She is holding a naked child close to herself.
The world premiere takes place in Kronach, the birthplace of Lucas Cranach. The painting will be shown on a large screen projection accompanying the music.
World premiere: 19.03.2017, Christuskirche (church of Christ) Kronach
Performers at world premiere: Danielle Maheux (oboe) and Marius Popp (organ)
